Coram Deo – 1st in the song series

 Coram Deo

I was made to know you
to breathe you
to need you
to live you

Coram Deo, Coram Deo
I am always before your face
I want to live reality
Coram Deo

You live in my being
the core of me
possess me
consume me

Coram Deo, Coram Deo
I am always before your face
I want to live reality
Coram Deo

You are my satisfaction
my joy
delight
my life

Coram Deo, Coram Deo
I am always before your face
I want to live reality
Coram Deo

(This song is the first song in the blog series I am doing on the CD, Coram Deo.)

Coram Deo is a latin expression and it means, “before the face of God”.  It implies that my entire life is constantly lived before Him. It takes away the idea of the separation of the secular and the sacred.

The word secular refers to a state that is worldly rather than spiritual and is not related either to religion, spiritual matters or to a religious body, for instance, secular music or secular buildings (http://www.ask.com/question/what-does-secular-mean).  I would like to add that secular activities would include education, work, taking a shower, eating a meal with my family, chores around the house, etc.

Sacred means to be devoted or dedicated to a deity or to some religious purpose; consecrated (http://www.ask.com/web?qsrc=1&o=0&l=dir&q=meaning+of+sacred).  In other words, church attendance, worship services, prayer, outward religious acts, etc.

I don’t consider myself to be religious, but someone who has a relationship with her creator that is intimate, vibrant and real.  As a Christian, I believe that the way to God is through relationship, and that we were created with that purpose – Relationship.

No one wants to have a relationship that is forced, fake, dishonest or uncommitted.  True Christianity is exactly the opposite of that.  It’s not hypocritical, nor is it a following of a set of rules.  It is being intertwined in an intimacy that involves every fibre of one’s being (Sarah Young-Jesus Calling).  It is living in freedom to be all that one was created to be.  It is having a way to be forgiven and restored.  It is Coram Deo.

How do you see God?  Do you believe that He values relationship or rules?  And if you like, please let me know of what you think of the song.   How does it speak to you?  How does it make you feel?

    1. I always feel so encouraged by you Neeta. You have a gift in doing so. YOU ROCK! And yes, that is me singing. I recorded a CD in 2007, soon after my son was born. I had a bunch of songs written down and all, but never considered actually recording a CD. Then one day, out of the blue, someone offered to pay for me to record a CD. It just all came together.
I totally agree, “there is truly no other real joy, light, satisfaction than the Divine.
      Blessing sweetie =)

      1. That is usually how it works when you do what you do in the service of the Higher….all comes together, somehow, right time, right people, right doors opening – Gift of Grace 🙂 And thank you for your kind words Staci, much much love and so look forward to more songs Hugssssss

  3. The words were so sweet and musical, even before I listened to the sound clip- they are a beautiful prayer :). The words are so easy to relate to – I think a lot of people will be able to use this song in their personal times with God. Lovely voice by the way! I look forward to reading more of your writing!

    1. Hi Merryn. Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. I’m really glad that you think people would be able to use it with their personal times with God.
      Many blessings =)

      1. Do you do “sponteous worship” in your own time or with others in a small group session? I have only dabbled in it a bit, but I love it – it’s creating music/ lyrics on the spot, without editing, like a prayer. My friend recorded some of the songs that came to her with some help, on a cd called “Lion and I” http://lionandi.bandcamp.com/album/lion-and-i You might like to check it out. She’s such a lovely singer.

      2. Thank you for passing the link on to me. I’ll have to check it out.
As for your question, I haven’t done “spontaneous worship”. Actually, songs that I’ve written are generally inspired by something. It could be an experience, some type of impression, what I’m going through, realities that exist throughout the world, etc. I love the whole idea of creation. And that we have been made to co-create with God. Even though my stuff is simple and, at times, quite ordinary, I still value that God allows me the opportunity to co-create with him and do the best that I can to do so.
        =)

  4. Your poem and questions at the end of the post reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite books,

“The true Christian life, true spirituality, is not merely a negative not-doing of any small list of things. Even if the list began as a very excellent list of things to beware of in that particular historic setting, we still must emphasize that the Christian life, or true spirituality, his more than refraining from a certain list of external taboos in a mechanical way”

So my answer to your one question is that I believe God values relationship; the positive action of pursuing beauty, good, art, etc…… rather than simply always focusing on the negative and of not-doing

    🙂

    1. Hey Kenneth. Ya, I’ve had enough of following a list of rules. For a time in my life I was full of fear and super legalistic. I couldn’t wear makeup, listen to ‘secular’ music, watch tv or movies, buy new clothes being that others in the world were undergoing persecution and also others that had so little. I had a real problem with anxiety, and believing that the anxiety was provoked by being ‘out of God’s will’. Really aweful time in my life. But necessary for God to bring me to a place of emotional and mental stability. The wanting to do good, live right, persue excellence, etc all comes out of that relationship.
      Blessings =)
p.s. It’s actually a song, not a poem. That’s why you see the chorus repeated after each verse.

  5. Like the song as I do all of your poetry Staci. I see God as my loving Father. He loves me unconditionally becuase when he sees me he sees the Son and I am bathed in white. How else could he love me as he does? I have a relationship with Him and need to be reminded daily that I need to find quiet moments alone with Him to hear His voice and bathe in His presence. He never forsakes me. At one time I was bothered by 1 Corinthians 13 which describes love – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.” as I fell short of the mark. Then I realized it was describing God’s love. No wonder I fell short! I still strive to love as God loves me. Love never fails, God is love.

    1. Here here to that Terry. Agape. We don’t seem to show this type of love very well, do we. But God doesn’t change. He’s the same always. And He is love.
      Thanks for a great comment.
      =)

    1. Muito obrigada Gilberto. Eu acabei de postar outra ontem também, chamada “Erika”. Estou fazendo uma série das minhas músicas, postando 1 por semana e dando o ‘porque’ atras de cada uma.
      Abraços

  6. Your song makes me feel secure, and inspire confidence and awakening: “I want to live reality”.
You believe in a God of Love, not in a God of fear and punishment… a God of confidence! As for me God is my shelter, my light, my beacon… . And yes, “coram Deo”, if I don’ believe in a cruel God, I believe in the “last Judgement”, it means, our acts in this world have consequences. In fact, all is said in the Christ parables, and in apocryphal gospels like the Gospel of Thomas… Parables are so powerful images to make us understand! Divine present, divine metaphors… because we are like “pupils” and yes, our “Teacher” will question us, and will judge us. It’s the reason why your line “I want to live reality” is SO important! Oh Stacilys, I’m sorry, maybe I express my faith in a clumsy way, I certainly had better to write a poem! But since you asked and that you write so sincere and beautiful poems of faith I thought I had to tell you mine! I think they are the same 🙂 thank you, and love to you!

    1. I think so to, my friend. I also believe in Judgement day and that our actions have consequences.
I don’t think you shared your faith in a clumsy way at all. I’m glad you did. I think were on the same page. And for this, I’m so glad.
      🙂
