When We’re Alone

When We're Alone.jpg

When we’re alone
Waves of peace
Pouring over me
Rushing

Rushing through me
I taste your love
Your love is sweet
Enveloping

Enveloping me
In a cocoon of safety
In a bubble of whiteness
Purity

Purity you give me
Washing me clean
No more stains
When we’re alone

Do you have a special place to go where you know you’ll find peace? Maybe it’s somewhere in nature? Or it could be in a crowded mall where nobody knows who you are?

I have a place like that.  It’s on my living room couch. Once everybody in my house has had breakfast, gotten dressed, and are ready for the day, I go there to have my morning quiet time.  I prepare myself a nice hot cup of coffee, grab my tablet and creativity notebook, close my eyes and enter into that special place where peace floods my being. It’s awesome. It’s cleansing. It’s sacred.

You can’t buy a peace like that. It’s priceless. It’s a peace that passes all understanding. A peace that isn’t dependent on circumstances or surroundings. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Now back to you. Do you have a special place where you find peace? What does ‘peace’ mean to you? Do you think one can buy peace?

  1. Love the imagery in your words, Staci…us usual 🙂

My little haven is either in the basement – my “man” cave although it’s really the play area for the boys. But I sleep down here (I am typing this from there as we speak) sometimes and do most of my typing down here. In fact, I have a kiddie drawing table that I use as my “desk”! I also meditate and do my daily spiritual readings down here. It’s dark and quiet and gives me some physical and mental space away. It’s my little den 🙂

    Hope you’re well!

    Paul

    1. HAHAHAHAHA! I love that Paul. “Man cave”. Why is it that man cave’s always (or mostly) seem to be in the basement. So funny because women are really into having a nice atmosphere. We like flowers, pretty pictures, nice things, nice smells, and all that jazz. Men – just give them a man cave with couch or bed, a tv, a computer, maybe a few video games and a fridge – oh yes, can’t forget the fridge – and they’re like a pig in mud.

At any rate, so glad you have that Paul. We all need that ‘special place’.

Thanks for the compliment too Paul. I soooo appreciate you, my friend.

BTW, you wouldn’t happen to live on the West Coast would you? I don’t think you do, but just asking.

      Big hug 🙂
      Staci

  2. Peace is when I know everyone is home and sleeping. It doesn’t matter where I am, as long as I know they’re safe.

  3. I am in my peace place now. It is the basement. With a busy home, it is out of the way, removed from the pace around me. I love it down here!

    1. Hi Mark. Did you read Paul’s (carry the message) comment below? He also likes his basement. I’m sure it’s probably your man cave too eh. hehehe. Men seem to really like basements. I’m sure that if we had basements here in Brazil, my hubby would have set up his own little cave there too.

  4. hi Staci, what a sweet post. for me, it’s not one physical place necessarily. it’s anyplace, anytime, so long as i’m open. that’s what my latest blog post, the field, is about. x tony

    1. Awesome Tony. Yes, I agree. My routine place is as I mentioned in my post. But my peace isn’t limited to there. It’s an inner peace that can be found anywhere. Even in the midst of a shopping mall.
Thank you for telling me about your newest post. I hadn’t seen that one yet. My internet was out for a few days, but it’s up and running again. Heading over there now to check it out.

  5. When I was a kid, I used to hid in the closet and block out all light. It sounds depressing, but it helped me focus on myself for a moment, without any worldly distractions. I could pretend in that moment that nothing else existed but my soul. That helped me figure out my emotions and make sense of the world.

    1. Sometimes we need to do that. Just hide away from everything and everyone. And kids especially are just starting to learn about the world and all. Things can get hectic.
      🙂

  6. You are so right. You cannot buy peace. Peace comes from within. I have a few places that give me the sense of peace. My quiet home in the mornings after everyone has left, the forest, the mountains, sitting next to a river, star gazing with no one around, and driving alone in the car.

    1. I love the mountains. I will be in Vancouver next month and am so looking forward to it. The mountains and nature there are breathtaking.

  7. Since I have no kiddos, I have plenty of alone time. Most of the time when I’m alone, however; I’m distracted by the radio, computer or my own racing thoughts. This makes me feel like I’m not really alone. I try to meditate at least 10 minutes a day and those minutes are the only time I really feel like I’m alone (and it’s a good!). Celeste 🙂

    1. I can barely remember what life was like pre-kids.
Gotta love those racing thoughts. Sometimes it’s so difficult to get them obey and be quiet. Especially when that pesky little pest, worry creeps in.
Yea, technology really distracts me too. Having that regular quiet time scheduled into my day helps sooooo much.
      Thanks Celeste.

  8. a beautiful poem stacylys, i like how you used the word repeat throughout. i guess my place and time is
when i write, i have a special area carved out in our apartment surrounded by all my houseplant. i wake up
around 1am and write all night, when the rest of the world is quiet.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. I’m trying to stretch myself with poetry forms. Actually, I thought that I was creating a ‘loop form’ poetry. However, after reading about the rules of this form, I see that it doesn’t totally follow the requirements. Just wait though, I’ll be stretching myself more and more and soon enough a loop poem will be coming with the rules all in tact.
Wow, 1am. That’s courageous. Do you go to sleep early? Your writing spot sounds lovely. Surrounded by plants. Very nice indeed.
      🙂

  9. So incredibly lovely! I am so excited to visit your blog, and I so look forward to seeing more!! 🙂 Have a lovely lovely day!! 🙂

  10. Ah Staci you do it again, so love your posts!!!
I enjoy my sofa chair in my living room too, it overlooks the big window and there is a beautiful river flowing outside and it is a lovely peaceful place to be….but like Rob said above, my peace comes truly when I know my partner and my daughter are both well and happy and with me!! 🙂 xox

    1. You’re so sweet Neeta. I really appreciate your kind words to me and appreciation.
How awesome. You have view of a river flowing outside? That must be so nice, not to mention, peaceful.
I didn’t know you had a daughter. Wow. How old is she?
      Bless you sweetie.
      🙂

      1. My daughter is 22 Staci, she is studying in Paris right now and this summer will be on her way to Seoul for a year 🙂

  11. One of the reasons that I am moving home this month is to find my own sense of peace. I have decided that it is high time that I live my life for myself in order to be able to continue to function as a kind and responsible human being. There is only so much giving that a person can do before they need to find a little peace for themselves and be able to recharge that which makes us compassionate and loving.

For me, peace is a calm, tranquil and clear mind.

    1. Wonderful Heather. So glad that you’re doing this for you. We can only love and give to others if we love and take care of ourselves.

I totally agree. Peace in a clam, tranquil and clear mind.
      Well said.

      Staci 🙂

  12. I think it is so sad that there are so many people who cannot tolerate time alone. They have to be in contact with someone in some shape or form. A while back I wrote a post titled, “Life Within My Own Skin,” which talks about it.

    1. You know Richard, when I was much younger, I think I was 18 years old at the time, I couldn’t stand being alone. I would get home from work and I couldn’t change my close fast enough and get out the door to go and be with people. I was also very insecure and very lost in the world at that time. I hadn’t come to know my maker yet and was totally messed up.
Now I love being alone. It’s the time in the day I really look forward to.
I’ll have to check out your post you mentioned. Thanks for letting me know about it.
      🙂

  13. My writing room is my haven. I have my radio in there, my coffee maker, my writing books, pads, laptop, etc. in there. It is MY place. MY space.

    Lovely post, Staci.

    1. Ohhhh, I would love to have a room just for me, where I could put all of the stuff I like and am ‘passionate’ about. What a great idea Kate – a writing room, and with a coffee maker – Awesome.

      Thanks Kate.
      Staci 🙂

  14. We are work and search for happiness and peace of mind…the ultimate taste of success, we have enough things in our daily life which forces us to distract and get disturbed. When we are alone and in our own zone, we can reflect on our purpose and discover our peace. We all look forward and love to get into our zone and state of peace…lovely thoughts!!!

    1. Hi Nihar. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I know that when I come and have my quiet time alone with God, His peace rushes into my heart and all of a sudden my worries and tensions fade. Nothing compares.
      🙂

      1. Yes, once we get the time for ourselves and connect with the almighty, the soul discovers the magical peace of existence…that again depends on how we have trained our mind to be in a state of ultimate balance…and we find our worries vaporizes into thin air…it is always great to interact with your insightful thoughts. So true no comparison!!!

  15. Great poem–nature gives me peace. I find peace through walking in gardens, parks, or around my neighborhood. The words in this poem reminds me of just that.

    1. Oh, thank you so much. I’m so pleased you like it. There’s something very peaceful about walking through nature. I think humans hunger for beauty, and the most beautiful things are found in nature.
      🙂
