A Human Being

A Human Being - Haiku

“We know artists by their most important creations” –Kurt Bruner at thriving family.com

Human beings are such amazing creatures, don’t you think? There is something special about being human. Something unique. Something that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom, and all creation. I think people instinctively know and believe that. We speak, blush, have compassion, wear clothing, have a spirit, appreciate beauty, have very fine hair, walk upright, understand time, live long childhoods, know the difference between right and wrong, and are self-conscious.

Here are a few interesting things I found online about the difference between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom.

“Without a doubt, the human trait that sets us apart the most from the animal kingdom is our extraordinary brain. Humans don’t have the largest brains in the world… …Yet the human brain, weighing only about 3 pounds when fully grown, give us the ability to reason and think on our feet beyond the capabilities of the rest of the animal kingdom, and provided the works of Mozart, Einstein and many other geniuses.”  —livescience.com

“Animals sing. So do we, but we make it into music.
Animals breed. So do we, but we also make it into love..
Animals kill. So do we, but we try to feel remorse.” (source)

Do you think humans are unique? If so, why?

  1. Im lucky to be a human being, but living in this chaotic world, I sometimes feel we are all the same….

  2. Humor and the recognition of a higher power ie. God.
Animals play, but they don’t entertain each other. I believe animals worship in the way they sing and do what they are designed to do, but they don’t go to church
Just a little thought. Have a great weekend.

    1. Hahaha. Can you imagine a herd of dogs or lions going into a church? That’ll be the day.
Hope you had a great weekend Wendy.
      🙂

      1. I’d like to see the Monkeys in the choir, and I would love to hear the Lions roar a big Amen!

      2. Hahaha. I think we wouldn’t be able to use the expession, ‘when pigs fly’ anymore if something like that were to happen.
        🙂

  3. Sometimes I wish I was a dog. I’d get to sleep on the couch all day and hang out with my favorite person every night. 🙂

    1. Hahahahaha. Sleep on the couch eh. Who’s the ‘Favorite person’?
Btw, thank you so much for the nomination on your post. I havn’t responded there yet because my internet is down yet again 😭. I’m using 3G on my phone right now. I will respond there once the internet is back up. 😀

  4. Beautiful poem. I think the most unique thing about human beings is that God created us because He actually wanted to be in an intimate relationship with us. Even knowing we were going to sin and turn our backs on Him. We were created to be in communication and communion with God because He chose us to be different from the rest of His creation. Unique…that’s what we are! Hey is that a pic of you and your son?!?

  5. Because we think . We decide the right and wrong and what to do with the consequences . We decide for ourselves what makes us happy and sane , whatever it is. We strive for the better . ( Most of us ) 🙂
Thank you for sharing this . (^_^)
    Cheers

  6. Staci, lovely poem, thoughts and information included. It’s remarkable that we are so unique, different and self-aware, especially because they say we use such a small percentage of the brain we were gifted with. Wonderful post, quite thought provoking! Please enjoy your week, and take good care!

    Always warm wishes,
    Pepperanne

  7. Lovely thought and poem Stacilys. Human should be a unique species and I wish humans could be the ones who take care of this planet to be a better place..but very often the greed make us forget about our nature and animals..

    1. Oh yes, I couldn’t have said it better Indah. We really are so selfish, aren’t we. The Bible says that all of creation is waiting and groaning. Hmmmm, poor animals.
Have a great week, my friend.
      🙂

    1. Awwww, thanks so much Melanie. I’m so glad you like it. The photo is of my son and me, just a couple weeks or so before I gave birth to my girl.
      🙂

  8. The ability to feel remorse……!
and hopefully the hunger for peace that will lead us to the grace to change.

Enjoy all aspects of your posts…..the light hearted and the challenging. Glad I found you.

    1. Oh yes, ‘the ability to feel remorse’. That’s a great point.
Thank you so much Eileen. I’m so glad you are enjoying my little blog. I will be heading on over to yours soon (right now I’m so tired. I’ve been lazing all day. Saturdays are like that for me). I will visit tomorrow.
      Bless you.
      🙂
