Just a simple piece to start out the week. I don’t feel like it’s quite finished yet, but this is what I’ve got at the moment.

A very happy Labor Day to all of my Canadian and American friends. As for us down south, it’s Brazil’s Independence Day. I’m off to enjoy a bowl of Acaí cream with my family.

and your beauty fades

only the memory of

how you graced my life

remains.

All in that moment.


I have been playing around with photography a bit lately, and I’m loving it. I also love Gerbera flowers. They’re so cheery and pretty. This one makes me think of innocence and sweetness.

From Death to Life


From Death to Life

Have you ever considered what it means to live? Did you know that the Greek have three words for our English word, ‘life’? I just recently found that out.

Bios: Physical or biological life.

Psuche: Psychological life of a human. Soul, mind, emotion, will.

Zoe: Absolute fullness of life, spiritual life, the divine life uniquely possessed by God.

Isn’t that amazing? The Greek words go so much deeper. It makes me think about how the physical, psychological (soul, mind, emotion, will) and spiritual are all interconnected. It also seems to answer certain questions I’ve grappled with in the past. Questions about life, death, meaning, purpose, fear of death and what happens when a human dies.

Freedom & Slavery (double cinquain)


Freedom & Slavery

Do you think that allowing yourself to be enslaved to someone kind of goes against the idea of freedom?

As a Christian, I believe that freedom comes from living within boundaries that were made for my protection. I used to think Christians lived such boring lives. I also used to think that they were just religious freaks, following a bunch of rules, and having no fun. Little did I know (at the time) that I was the one that was imprisoned. I believed a lie.

I believe I have freedom now. Freedom to be all that I was created to be. Freedom to say no to that which will harm me. Freedom to live within healthy and safe boundaries. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

What does ‘freedom’ mean to you? Do you believe that boundaries are needed to truly be free?


The cinquain poetry form is a 5-line, unrhymed poem. It contains 22 syllables and each line has a different syllable count: 

Line 1=2 syllables, 2=4, 3=6, 4=8, 5=2.

Jar of Clay – Etheree

I saw the most amazing photo of a life-like sculpture yesterday.

Isn’t this an amazing photo? It makes me think about the cycle of life. We come into it as a tiny baby, live a ton of experiences, strive for eternal youth, but it’s no use. Sooner or later we all reach the winter of our lives and all of us have the same mortal destiny. We come into this world a little baby naked and we leave it naked.

I believe that the body is just like this jar of clay. It simply houses me. This jar is functional and serves a purpose. Along the way, in it’s fragility, it chips and cracks as it experiences the bumps of life. The beautiful thing though, is that God has made a way for me to shine. Within me, he has placed His very self, which is an eternal treasure that doesn’t waste away and decay. A treasure that daily fulfills and transforms me into something that meshes with this treasure. When this jar has served its purpose ,and who I am is released from it’s hold – ahhhhhhhhh – now that’s freedom.

The Etheree poetry form consists of ten lines. Each line has a syllable count as one higher than the line before – 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

I have just returned from an amazing mini-vacation in Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil. It was an amazing four days. I will post some photos soon. I will be packing up the rest of our stuff and moving south this week. Busy times. It may take me a while to respond to any comments.

Heart Change


Heart Change

Life is all about making choices. It’s also about living in the moment, because that’s all we really have. We need to notice the beauty in moments. Even the tough ones. One thing I’ve learned is that I am constantly changing, growing, learning and transforming. The other thing I’ve noticed is that it’s not of my own doing. I look to someone higher and greater than me for that transformation.

I’ve also learned that I don’t need to believe and accept what popular culture preaches. Actually, a lot of it I reject. This post I wrote a while back is an example of that. I used to believe so much, just because of what society and popular culture preaches. Allowing truth and light to enter my heart and mind, to transform me, to fashion me, to change me, and to heal me has been revolutionary. The great thing is that it hasn’t stopped. This tranformation is continual and will continue until the day I die.

Take Me Deeper


Take Me Deeper

My word for 2015 is ‘CREATE’. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you already know that ‘create’ has been a strong word in my life for the past couple of months. I really want to do it all: poetry, song writing, photography, mixed-media art, design, etc. I have joined a new on-line faith-based community called ‘His Kingdom Come‘, and am excited about growing in various art forms. I have been asked to be the lead moderator for the poetry group, which will allow me to continuously challenge myself to grow and produce quality content.

The above photo is the journal cover I created for this journal. The girl is also wearing black shoes, but you can’t see them here. I haven’t completely finished it yet, but will work on it here and there. I hope to have a book full of creative works that I have produced by the end of the year.

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? Do you have a word that is strong on your heart for 2015?


Just a quick note to say that I will be sooooo busy until mid-March. My family and I are moving from north-east Brazil to the south-east, so we will be packing up all week. Then we will take a mini-vacation to the beach in Porto Seguro, just to come back and prepare to move. Apart from all this, I will also be starting to home school our oldest, who has Asperger’s syndrome (school year starts in February here) and will be unable to read or comment much. Then my mom is coming from Canada for a month in February. If you write me a comment (and I loooooovvvvveeee your comments) I will reply, but it may take me some time.

Savior

Do you ever feel like the world has lost control? Sometimes I have to wonder where humanity is heading. I know that history hasn’t always proven to be a bed of roses, but it seems to me things are just getting bleaker. Or maybe it’s just because we have access to so much information now.

I am thankful for peace found in the midst of chaos, and for the light in my heart, even though the world seems dark.

What are your thoughts about the world now-a-day? Where do you think humanity is heading? Where do you seek peace in a world full of strife?

Immanuel-God with us

I am not an expert at anything

Not poetry

Not music

Not drawing, nor painting

Not mixed media

Not parenting, nor teaching

But I have passion

I have desire

And what I do, I do with purpose and love

I give it my all

The Little Drummer Boy did too. He stood before a little baby, who was also a king. He wondered at the peaceful, innocent, simple scene. So touched he was that he wanted to give him something special. Something given in love and honor. He wasn’t the greatest drummer. Heck, he was only a young boy. He didn’t have material wealth, nor a fine gift to offer him, so he played. He played with passion, with heart – he gave it his all. Then the baby smiled at him. That’s what I want. I want to see him smile at me. That’s my greatest treasure. That’s my greatest reward.
